Everything you need to know about Tap In
General
Tap In is a pot-sacred, squad-viral accountability app where verified habits pay. We help you build lasting habits through financial stakes, AI verification, and social accountability. When you commit to a goal with real money on the line, verified by AI, and supported by your squad—you actually follow through.
The app launches mid-December 2025 on both iOS and Android. First tasks will begin on New Year's Day—January 1, 2026. Everyone starts together, making it the perfect time to commit to your New Year's resolutions with real accountability.
Tap In is free to download and use. You only put money on the line when you want to commit to a specific habit or goal. The stakes you set are entirely up to you—from $5 to $500 per task. Winners always get 100% of the pot (we take 0% rake), and we only charge a small platform fee on failed tasks to cover costs.
Yes! Tap In will be available on both iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play) at launch in mid-December 2025.
Unlike traditional habit trackers that rely on honor systems and have 92% failure rates, Tap In uses three powerful forces: financial stakes (real money on the line), AI verification (no cheating), and social pressure (squad accountability). This combination results in 92% success rates—the exact opposite of traditional apps.
How It Works
Tap In works through the Commitment Loop: (1) Set your goal and put money on the line, (2) Submit proof when you complete your task (photo, timelapse, GPS, etc.), (3) AI instantly verifies your submission in under 10 seconds, (4) Get instant payouts if you succeed or lose your stake if you fail. It's that simple.
You can track almost any habit! Popular ones include: waking up on time (photo of toothbrush), working out (gym photo), reading (timelapse), meditating (Apple Health sync or timelapse), running (photo in running shoes or step count), finishing essays (submission screenshot), walking the dog (photo in washer), doing laundry (photo in washer), getting to work on time (GPS check-in), screen time limits, and many more.
Depending on your habit, you can verify through: photos (gym selfie, toothbrush pic, etc.), timelapses (30-min reading session), GPS location (checking in at work or gym), Apple Health data (steps, meditation apps, workouts), screenshots (essay submissions, app usage), or manual verification for custom habits. Our AI analyzes your proof and verifies it in under 10 seconds.
If you complete your task and submit valid proof that passes AI verification, you win! You get your stake back plus a share of the pot from those who failed (if in a group challenge). Payouts are instant—money hits your account within seconds of verification.
If you don't complete your task or fail to submit proof by the deadline, you lose your stake. Your money goes into the pot and is distributed to the winners. This financial consequence is what makes Tap In so effective—real stakes drive real results.
Yes! You can set goals at any cadence that works for you: daily (e.g., work out every day), weekly (e.g., finish 3 workouts per week), monthly (e.g., read 4 books this month), or one-time goals (e.g., finish my essay by Friday). You control the frequency and duration.
AI Verification
Our dual-layer AI system analyzes your submitted proof (photos, timelapses, GPS data, etc.) and verifies if you completed your task. For example, if you committed to going to the gym, the AI checks if your photo was taken inside a gym environment. If you committed to a 30-minute reading timelapse, the AI verifies the duration and activity. Verification happens in under 10 seconds.
Our AI is highly accurate with dual-layer verification: (1) Computer vision AI analyzes visual proof, (2) GPT-4-level reasoning validates context and intent. We've achieved 96%+ accuracy in early testing. If there's ever a dispute, our human review team can manually verify edge cases within 24 hours.
If you believe the AI incorrectly rejected your submission, you can appeal through our dispute system. Our human review team will manually verify your proof within 24 hours. If they determine you did complete the task, you'll receive your payout plus a bonus for the inconvenience. We take fairness seriously.
Our AI is specifically designed to catch cheating attempts. For example, if you take a gym selfie from Google Images, the AI detects it. If you speed up a timelapse, the AI catches it. If you fake GPS location, the AI flags it. We use computer vision, metadata analysis, and behavioral patterns to ensure integrity. Cheating results in stake loss and potential account suspension.
The AI accepts photos, videos, timelapses, GPS location data, Apple Health data, screenshots, and more. Each habit type has specific proof requirements. For example: gym = photo inside gym, reading = 30-min timelapse, waking up = toothbrush photo taken in morning hours, running = GPS route or photo in running shoes, etc.
Money & Payouts
Payouts are instant! As soon as your proof is AI-verified (under 10 seconds), your winnings are deposited into your Tap In wallet. From there, you can cash out to your bank account, use it for future stakes, or withdraw instantly via PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, or bank transfer.
Yes! We take 0% rake from winners. If 10 people stake $10 and 8 succeed, the winners split 100% of the losers' money ($20 total). We only charge a small platform fee on failed tasks to cover costs. This is fundamentally different from traditional betting platforms that take 5-20% rake.
Start with an amount that feels uncomfortable but not devastating—usually $10-$50 for most people. The stake should be high enough to hurt if you lose, but not so high that it causes financial stress. As you build confidence and streak, you can increase stakes. Many users stake $20-$100 per daily habit.
Yes! You can cash out your Tap In wallet balance anytime. Withdrawals to bank accounts take 1-3 business days. Instant withdrawals via PayPal, Venmo, or Cash App are available for a small convenience fee (typically $0.25-$1).
We accept credit cards, debit cards, PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and bank transfers. You can fund your Tap In wallet with any of these methods and set up automatic reloading if desired.
Absolutely. We use bank-level encryption and partner with Stripe (the same payment processor used by Amazon, Google, and millions of businesses). Your funds are held in segregated accounts and are never commingled with company funds. We're also working toward obtaining a money transmitter license for additional regulatory compliance.
We charge 0% rake to winners—you keep 100% of the pot. We charge a small platform fee (typically $1-$3) on failed tasks to cover costs. Payment processing fees (credit card fees) are passed through at cost. There are no subscription fees, no monthly fees, and no hidden costs.
Squads & Social
Squads are friend groups within Tap In where you and your friends compete, support, and hold each other accountable. You can see each other's progress, cheer each other on, trash talk, and compete for leaderboard rankings. Squads create social pressure and motivation—research shows you're 95% more likely to complete a goal when a friend is doing it with you.
You can create a squad and invite friends via link, or join existing squads by accepting invitations. Squads can be small (3-5 close friends) or large (20+ people). You can be in multiple squads at once for different goals (e.g., fitness squad, productivity squad, etc.).
Yes! Squads have built-in leaderboards tracking streaks, win rates, total earnings, and consistency. You can create squad challenges where everyone stakes money on the same goal and competes to see who has the longest streak or highest win rate. Friendly competition drives results.
You can still use Tap In solo and join public challenges with other motivated individuals. However, our data shows that users with squads have 3x higher success rates than solo users. The social pressure and accountability from friends is incredibly powerful—so we encourage inviting at least 2-3 close friends to maximize your results.
Yes! In addition to private squads, you can join public challenges hosted by the Tap In community or by influencers. These are larger competitions (50-500+ people) around popular goals like "Wake up at 6 AM for 30 days" or "Work out 5x per week." Public challenges often have bigger pots and cash prizes.
Safety & Privacy
Yes! Tap In operates under skill-based gaming laws, similar to fantasy sports platforms like DraftKings and FanDuel. Your success depends on your own actions and commitment, not random chance. We're also working with legal counsel to ensure compliance in all jurisdictions and will obtain necessary licenses as we scale.
Yes. We take privacy seriously. Your photos, GPS data, and other verification proof are encrypted and only used for verification purposes. We never share your personal data with third parties. Your squad can see your activity and results (to create accountability), but strangers cannot unless you join public challenges.
All photos are private by default and only visible to the AI verification system. If you're in a squad, your friends can only see a confirmation that you completed the task—not the actual proof photo unless you choose to share it. You have full control over what's visible to others.
Yes, you can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the settings page. Upon deletion, all your photos, GPS data, and personal information are permanently removed from our servers within 30 days. Any pending stakes will be refunded to your original payment method.
Tap In is fundamentally different from gambling—you're in full control of the outcome. Success depends on your actions, not random chance. That said, we take responsible gaming seriously and offer daily/weekly stake limits, self-exclusion options, and resources for users who feel they're staking more than they can afford. We encourage healthy habits, not compulsive betting.
Technical
You need internet to submit proof and receive verification. However, you can take photos/record timelapses offline and submit them when you're back online. The app works on WiFi and cellular data.
No. Tap In is optimized for battery efficiency. The app only runs when you're actively using it or submitting proof. We don't run background processes that drain battery. Timelapses and GPS tracking do use battery, but we've optimized these features to minimize impact.
Tap In requests camera access (for photos/videos), location access (for GPS verification), photo library access (to upload existing photos), and notification access (for reminders and streak alerts). All permissions are optional, but certain features won't work without them (e.g., GPS verification requires location access).
Yes! Your account syncs across all devices. You can start a task on your iPhone and submit proof from your iPad. Just log in with the same account on each device.
If you took the photo/video before your phone died, you can submit it when you charge your phone—as long as it's within the deadline window. We recommend enabling auto-backup to cloud storage (iCloud, Google Photos) so your proof is never lost.
Miscellaneous
Yes! You can commit to weight loss habits like "work out 5x per week," "hit 10K steps daily," or "meal prep every Sunday." While we don't directly track weight (outcomes vary person to person), we track the habits that lead to weight loss. Consistency in habits drives results.
Absolutely! We offer B2B site licenses for companies, schools, and organizations. Corporate wellness programs can use Tap In to improve employee health, productivity, and engagement. Schools can use it for student accountability around homework, attendance, and extracurriculars. Contact us at investors@tapin.app for B2B inquiries.
Stakes are non-refundable once a challenge begins—that's the whole point. However, if you funded your wallet and haven't started any challenges, you can withdraw those funds anytime. If there's a technical error or AI mistake, we'll issue refunds on a case-by-case basis after manual review.
You can report bugs or issues through the in-app feedback button or by emailing support@tapin.app. We aim to respond within 24 hours. For urgent issues affecting payouts or verification, we have a priority support channel available 24/7.
Yes! We love user feedback. You can suggest features through the in-app feedback form or by emailing hello@tapin.app. We review all suggestions and prioritize based on user demand. Many of our best features came from user ideas.
